What are the disadvantages of cotton rope?

Cotton rope is not considered to be as sturdy as their synthetic counterparts. This is because cotton swells quickly in humidity and water, making them a magnet for shrinking, mould and mildew – ultimately causing damage and breakage. 

Is cotton rope safe?

Yes – cotton rope is incredibly safe. Cotton rope is one of the most natural rope materials; unbleached and colour-free, as well as incredibly soft to touch. Cotton rope is also considered to be eco-friendly. 

Can cotton rope get wet?

No – cotton rope should not get wet. Cotton rope is made from natural fibres which will cause the rope to shrink when wet, as the fibres swell with water – later leading to breakage. This can happen from rain, dew, immersion and humidity, so it is recommended to keep cotton rope for indoor use only. 

How strong is cotton rope?

Cotton rope is one of the weakest rope materials, as it demonstrates very low tensile strength and poor resistance to water and rot. Therefore, it’s not recommended for heavy-duty or outdoor applications.
