Frequently asked questions about butcher’s twine

Can you use normal string instead of butcher’s twine?

Although you can use regular string to tie joints of meat, this won’t be as effective. Butcher’s twine is more durable and long-lasting, making it much less likely to fray or break apart. Plus, you can buy butcher’s twine in a variety of colours, which is very useful for colour-coding your merchandise.

What is special about butcher’s twine?

As mentioned above, butcher’s twine is particularly durable and is designed specifically for tying meat and packaging food. This means it’s less likely to break and is therefore better at protecting food and making it look presentable. In addition, butcher’s string is food-safe and oven-safe.

What is rayon?

Rayon (also called viscose) is a semi-synthetic fibre that we use for our range of butcher’s twine. It’s made from natural sources of regenerated cellulose (such as wood) and will often resemble other natural fibres like cotton, linen, wool and silk. Rayon twine is biodegradable, food-safe and very strong, making it perfect for holding meats together.
